How to set up a Range Extender?

TP-Link Extender setup is easy and there are two methods through which you set up the TP-Link Range Extender. Use the following steps to set up Extender:


  1. Make sure you can plug in the extender to the power source.
  2. Check out the color of the power light that needs to be stable.
  3. Side, you need to check the Primary Home Network, make sure it should be on and Wi-Fi is also on.
  4. You need to know of the Wireless password of your Router so that your extender will connect with your router.


  • You can turn on your computer or laptop and you can use an ethernet cable or Wi-Fi connection to your device.
  • You can see the Wi-Fi list on your computer where you can see the TP-Link Extender Network name is there in the List which would be with the name of the extender’s network: TP-LINK_Extender_2.4GHz or TP-LINK_Extender_5GHz.
  • Extended Wi-Fi Network remains open until we set up the extender, once your computer connects to TP-Link extended Wi-Fi.

  • After putting the details, you can click on the save and it will save the New Wireless settings.
  • You can see the Extended Wi-Fi name and try to connect your devices with your Extender’s Wi-Fi.


  1. By using a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) on your extender you can take your extender into a setup mode.
  2. Make sure you do have the WPS button available on your Home Network’s box.
  3. Your router should support the WPS.
  4. Press and hold the WPS button on your router or you can also press through login into your router’s page.

  2. WPS light is blinking on both devices and it will take 2 minutes to establish a connection between them.
  3. After login in your router page, you can go for attached devices or connected device, where you can see the IP address for your extender.
  4. When you type that IP address on your browser, you can see the login page of extender and you can access the settings
  5. Connect your devices with extended Wi-Fi and Extender is Set up.

How to log into the Web GUI of my Range Extender via IP address or a domain name?

Here we will guide you on how to get into Range Extender page:

  • Please plug in the ethernet cable into your extender and other ends of the cable into your computer or Laptop.

NOTE: It is recommended but unnecessary to use an ethernet connection to log into the Web GUI.

  • Launch a web browser where you can enter the default address for your extender or you can also try the default IP address “”.
  • It will be prompt for username and password for your extender login, where you can use the default credential (admin). Then click enter to log in.

  1. Click on Start on your computer, then go to the control panel.

How to improve your Wireless speed or range for your Range Extender?

How to adjust Wi-Fi coverage of TP-Link Range Extender?

You can set up the Wi-Fi coverage according to your Area or the location where you want to set up the Extender.

If we take an example of RE450 Range Extender.

  1. You need to login into the Web GUI of the range extender, for that, you need to open up the default web address of TP-Link extender which is “” and after that, you need to enter the login credential for the extender.
  2. Go to Settings option from where you can go to the Advanced settings.
  3. Under Advanced settings, you need to go to the Wi-Fi Coverage.

The LED light shows the status of extender, you can access the LED by login into your extender.

NOTE: If you use your extender frequently in the Night-time, In that case, you can turn off the LED light of Extender.

  3. Under System tools, you can select LED Control.
